Judge Carol Klein

She isn’t about politics.

She stands for the children.

A Lifelong Commitment to Our Children & Families

Family Court Judge Carol Klein, first elected in 2000, is a compassionate problem-solver who has always championed the rights of children, the elderly, the disabled, and the disadvantaged.

Her courtroom is a place where the rights and protection of children come first, and each individual is treated with dignity and respect. She embraces the concept of procedural justice, where fairness takes center stage in the processes that resolve disputes and allocate resources.

Hers has been called “The part that cares,” and it’s a moniker she wears with pride.

“I practice the law in my court holistically;  I want to know the person from the top of the head to the tip of the toes,” Judge Klein said.

The children and families before her deserve nothing less.

She makes it a priority to maintain an in-depth knowledge of all available programs that support children and families so that she can help guide those in need toward the best solutions possible.

She is passionate in her concern that the Orange County human services system provides family-driven care, and has served on dozens of boards and committees through the years in furtherance of that commitment. The impact she has had on the lives of children and youth and families in our community is well-documented and oft-recognized.

While serving as Family Court Judge, Judge Klein has worked tirelessly for the reform of Juvenile Justice through the Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative and, most recently, with the PINS Task Force. It has always been her goal to work for the betterment for children and families in Orange County.

In addition, she is also an Acting Justice of the Supreme Court and heads Orange County's Juvenile Treatment Court.

Before taking the bench, Judge Klein served as the Town of Chester justice for 12 years. She has also been a Family Court civil prosecutor, defense attorney, child’s attorney, and mediator.

Now more than ever, Orange County needs a family court judge that has the breadth of knowledge and diverse experience necessary to make insightful decisions that impact our most vulnerable.

Family Court Judge Carol Klein has proven time and time again that she is that jurist.

Hon. Elaine Slobod

Retired New York Supreme Court Justice
(first female elected to county-wide judicial office in Orange County)

"I have the highest personal and professional regard for Orange County Family Court Judge Carol Klein, who I was honored to mentor. As a former Family Court Judge, I know firsthand that it is not enough to know the law, and to execute orders in accordance with the law. The position requires someone who understands and respects the complexity of cases that involve those who are most vulnerable. Family Court Judge Carol Klein not only competently and fairly adjudicates the cases that come before her; she has also dedicated herself to improving the quality of services available to the litigants and to bringing about new services. Orange County needs the experience and insight that Judge Klein brings to the bench, which is why it is my pleasure to endorse her candidacy for re-election as Orange County Family Court Judge.”

Hon. Debra J. Kiedaisch

Retired Orange County Family Court Judge
(only Democrat ever elected to the position of Orange County Family Court Judge)

She is the only candidate with the extensive judicial experience that a Family Court judge needs to competently provide the direction necessary to ensure positive outcomes for everyone involved. She is a dedicated, thorough, and knowledgeable judge who takes a personal interest in each case; a true problem-solver who champions those who are most vulnerable. This is why I wholeheartedly endorse her re-election as Orange County Family Court Judge.”

New York Assemblyman Karl Brabenec

Karl Brabenec

The core values of hard work, family, and community have always been evident in Family Court Judge Carol Klein’s actions, both inside and outside the courtroom. The Conservative Party is proud to once again endorse Orange County Family Court Judge Carol Klein.”

Florence Santini

Town of Deerpark Clerk

"(Family Court) is a special court and we need a special person to help our children and families find a better life. Hon. Carol Klein has spent many years in public service, and has shown that she is willing to go beyond the normal efforts and reach out to help all our residents, especially our children, who are the most vulnerable. Her work with Family Court over the years gives me a sense of pride and confidence in endorsing her."

Ruth Queen

Secretary to the late Hon. Andrew P. Bivona, JFC

"I have known The Hon. Carol Klein first as an attorney, then as an Orange County Family Court, where I was Secretary to the late Hon. Andrew P. Bivona, J.F.C. and through the years, there were many occasions when we saw Judge Klein's commitment to and compassion for Orange County families. The caseload in Family Court is backbreaking, the subject matter is heartbreaking. There are many families in crisis in O.C. under normal circumstances; the stresses of the last 4 months have sent many families over the edge. The Court and the People of Orange County need not only a seasoned, experienced sitting Judge who will continue, uninterrupted, fully trained, from January 1st, her habit of conducting her Court efficiently, but a Judge who is truly compassionate, considerate of all the parties and circumstances and is able to render a fair decision that complies with the applicable Laws. This is the Carol Klein I came to know over 30 years. She is a genuine person whose integrity enhances that of the Court."

Kevin Radday

Orange County Chairman
SAM Party of New York

“Throughout her years on the bench, Judge Klein has always been a highly qualified problem-solver who believes in the principle of working with others - regardless of political affiliation - to bring about positive results for children and families. She is fair, compassionate, and dedicated. As a result, we are proud to call Judge Carol Klein our endorsed candidate, and strongly encourage residents to vote for her on the SAM Party line.”

Jeremy Yela

Orange County Deputy Sheriffs' Police Benevolent Association

"We know that with your experience, knowledge and public service that you are the right candidate for the position. You are a dedicated civic leader in your community, and we are certain you will move Orange County forward within the legal system."

Protecting Children & Fighting for Families

"Sitting on the bench in Family Court every day for nearly 20 years, I’ve seen firsthand how the actions in this courtroom can have dramatic and long-lasting impacts on children and families. As such, I take both the successes and failures of those before me personally.

Admittedly, it would be easy to become discouraged as a family court judge. Some of these cases can be incredibly heartbreaking.

But even after two decades on the bench, I am completely undaunted. I am as dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of children and families as I was 20 years ago."
